Luke Browning to Drive FW47 in Abu Dhabi & Young Driver Test! | Williams F1 (2025)

Get ready, racing fans! Luke Browning, a rising star, is set to make waves as he gets behind the wheel of the FW47 at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2025. What's more exciting? He'll also be participating in the Young Driver Test at the end of the season. This is a huge opportunity for this young driver, but what does it mean for the team?

Luke's journey with Atlassian Williams Racing began in April 2023, following an incredible 2022 season where he dominated the GB3 Championship and earned the prestigious Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award. Talk about a winning streak!

Since then, Luke has only accelerated his success. He clinched victory at the Macau Grand Prix in 2023, showcasing his talent by securing pole position and the fastest lap. In the 2024 FIA Formula 3 season, he secured an impressive third-place finish, highlighted by two race wins and a podium finish in Monaco.

Luke has already experienced the FW47, having driven it in FP1 sessions at the Bahrain and Mexico City Grands Prix. This experience has prepared him for the challenges ahead.

"It’s going to be an unforgettable weekend in Abu Dhabi fighting for the Formula 2 title while getting back behind the wheel of the FW47, and it’s a challenge I’m going to relish," Luke shared. "The Young Driver Test will give me a final opportunity to help the team prepare for 2026 and I’m looking forward to being part of a Formula 1 weekend for the last time this season. Thank you to everyone at the Driver Academy and Williams for the trust once again.”

But here's where it gets interesting... The Williams Racing Driver Academy is known for nurturing young talent, and Luke's journey is a testament to their commitment. He has been actively involved in Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) and simulator programs, all designed to prepare him for the future of F1.

Balancing this, Luke has also been competing in a successful FIA Formula 2 campaign, currently holding the third position in the standings and gearing up for a fierce title battle in the final two races of the season. His first Formula 2 victory came in the feature race at Monza, a moment that highlighted his potential.

Sven Smeets, Sporting Director at Atlassian Williams Racing, commented, "Luke’s development continues to impress us, and we are looking forward to closing the season with him behind the wheel of the FW47. We have an incredibly talented group of drivers in the Williams Racing Driver Academy, and it is important for us to give them the opportunity to progress as they move up the ladder. These final sessions of the season will give Luke another valuable chance to learn from Alex and Carlos, the wider team, and further embed with our trackside operation as he looks towards a bright future.”

And this is the part most people miss... The team's decision to give Luke this opportunity speaks volumes about their confidence in his abilities and their commitment to developing young drivers. It's a strategic move that could pay off handsomely in the future.
